About Us
Julia and Charles Yelton met and married in Sydney, Australia 12 years ago. Julia's repertoire includes architectural ceramic design, yoga teaching, restauranter, Cooking for health, landscape design and kirlian analysis to name a few. Charles' background covers such things as 30+ years in computer design engineering, costume and set design, fashion design, special education teaching, technical operations management, astronomy, geology and gematria among others.
Wishing to follow a more altruistic life-style, the couple went to Crystal Waters Permaculture Village in southeast Queensland, Australia to study Permaculture application and design. As a result they purchased a property at the village and put their new life-style into practice on their own land by teaching and designing self-sufficiency projects for others.
The move to Crystal Waters was to have an even greater impact than they had ever imagined. Like others before them, they found that stepping outside the restrictions of life in the fast lane, stimulated their creativity in profound ways. The couple began merging their individual talents and design expertise to create works of art and craft drawn from indigenous peoples arts, crafts and cultures around the globe, from nature and from inside their minds eyes. Julia and Charles founded Humustacia Gardens first at Crystal Waters Permaculture Village in Queensland, Australia and now in Whitefield, Maine.
Out of our passion for sustainable living and permaculture, we have incorporated a zone "00" into our teaching. This enables us to bring more than just permaculture into our workshops. We incorporate the wellbeing of the individuals "self" as a part of our courses and offerings. Our mission is to inspire and bring forth the individual's creative essence into their everyday world. Our goal is to demonstrate that we do indeed live in a world beyond just the material.
